Pedro’s Journal - Reflection
1. What was Christopher Columbus’s perspective during his encounter with the native people?
When he arrived he saw land and thought it was India, and he struck their banner in the ground to show that land was theirs. When they got off the boats they saw natives and showed them what they had with them at the moment, Columbus showed one native his sword and that native slid his hand across the blade. Columbus saw some had gold with them and thought that it would be simple to get gold from them and decided to take some back with them on the boat.
2. What was Pedro’s perspective during his encounter with the native people?
As they got off to go on land Pedro and the other men noticed natives coming and saw how most were naked and some had their faces painted. Pedro was happy when some of the natives on the boat with them escaped because he did not like them being forced to go on the boat with them. Pedro and the men thought they were close to Japan because they saw a native have a gold nose ring and on it they saw japanese writing so assumed they were sailing in the right direction to japan
3. What was the native people’s perspective during their encounter with the explorers?
I think they were thinking are they people of god, has god sent them down here to help us? They believed the lies of Columbus and went with him on the boat even though all he wanted was their gold. I think they were just distracted with the gifts from them because they probably have never seen anything like the beads and the sword. I think they thought if they go with columbus he would give them more stuff like the beads and necklaces and swords.

NASA - Mission to Mars Vidyo Module
I found it interesting that it takes a few more hours than earth for mars to rotate around fully but I can understand because it is a whole different planet. I also thought it was interesting how there is no bathroom on the ship, how do they go to the bathroom when they need to? One last thing I found interesting was that you have to exercise in space because I did not know that you would have to exercise in space due to the gravity. Those are some of the things that I found interesting when we were talking to Mr. Storm because I never knew any of those things.
I learned that you have to exercise in space because of the gravity, Mr. Storm said that when you don’t walk and you float around instead you can lose your muscles in your legs so you need to exercise. I also learned that you need to have room for all your food, enough for a long time to last you and the number of people that are with you so you can eat every single day 3 times a day. I also learned that Mars will take longer for it to rotate all around than earth, Mars will take a few more hours than earth. The only thing I already knew was that the foods water is taken out of the food and when you want to eat that certain food you put the water back in.
I enjoyed the fact that we got to talk to NASA because when do you get to do that, whenever you want, nope. I also enjoyed how Mr. Storm told us some facts about the food and how/why you need to exercise, and he was very specific about the whole thing as well. I liked how he showed us pictures of the people exercising, eating food, floating around because it was cool seeing what he was talking about when he was talking about it. From this experience I learned some new/interesting facts about what they do up in space in their ship and I thought it was a fun/cool experience of having the chance to talk to Mr. Storm.
